Literature Text

dusk touches her skin
and she revels in its fleeting
warmth;
lips carving the words of
fairytale princesses and
mock heartbeats on the edge of
her chest cavity.

just as she had been wishing for it never to
leave her again,
the ocean roars and water drips from its
crescent fangs as the tame beast
that she had known for decades claims
the earth as its own--
devouring and indulging not only what once was,
but what she thought
was hers.

(the sun will rise, it's true,
but the pretty sun always sets,
too.)
